Calder family papers, 1817-1886 (bulk 1857-1865).

The collection includes family correspondence, accounts, diaries, chiefly 1857-1865, of members of the Calder family of Wilmington, N.C. The bulk of the collection consists of letters from Confederate soldiers William and Robert E. Calder written from Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania while serving in the 2nd North Carolina Infantry Regiment, Confederate States of America, to their mother, Phila Lazarus Calder. After the war there are family papers of the Calder brothers including their accounts as wholesale grocers and commission merchants in Wilmington (1874). Also included are a property account book (1817) of Captain William Hunter; a travel account (1838) of John L. London about the Virginia springs; and an account book (1859-1860) of William Calder.
